SCIENCE FAMILY

About Us

Science Family:

We are a family of four that loves to travel. We frequently find ourselves in science-related pursuits. We've produced this website with the hope that our experiences will be of value to other families interested in both science and travel. We live within biking distance of Lake Michigan.

Dad: I am a teacher. I have worked in education for almost 20 years. My teaching experience has ranged from preschool to grad school. I am currently teaching computers at the middle school level. I have always had a strong interest in science. My dream is to have a personal office that is a planetarium. I light fireworks with a blowtorch.

Mom: I am a youth services librarian in a small town. I have to commute, so I'm an avid audiobook listener. I love to read fiction and non-fiction, riding bikes, swimming, and getting dirty. I was a teacher before I became a librarian. Dad and I met in the principal's office. (We weren't in trouble...) I am passionate about literacy, traveling, and food. I hope to join the Peace Corps as a retiree. I bait my own hook.

Sam: I am the official site photographer. I am in middle school. I am very interested in painting, architecture, photography, science and traveling. I love to swim and ride bikes. My mom and I do long-distance rides together. Our longest so far is 20.8 miles. I have done 6 non-representational abstract paintings, in the style of Jackson Pollock. I have been drumming since I could bang on pots and pans. I've been taking lessons for two years. I'll miss the Weekly World News because it was a great source of ideas for names for rock bands: Redneck Aliens, Sasquatch Makeover, etc. My heroes include Frank Lloyd Wright, Neal Peart, Percy Julian, Ansel Adams and Jackson Pollock.

Will: I'm only 8 years old. One of the things I love is climbing small waterfalls. My favorite animal is the cheetah. It is the fastest land animal on earth. It has short, very fast sprints. It can chase its prey for only about 15 minutes before it has to rest. I have a big hobby of collecting stones. I really like to find their center of gravity and study their structural design. I love reading. When I open a book, it's like I fall into a trance and I don't wake up until the book's over. I'm happiest when I'm swimming or being tickled. I try to pet every dog I meet.
